Invisalign® Clear Aligners Plano, TX

Young woman smiling and holding up Invisalign clear aligners at McDonald & Luck DDS in Plano, TxAt McDonald & Luck DDS, Invisalign is one of our options when considering the enhancement of your smile.

Clear aligners such as Invisalign, is a form of cosmetic dentistry, it works similarly to metal braces, using pressure to straighten your teeth.

Increasingly patients are seeking this orthodontic device because it works without the embarrassment and frustration of metal brackets.

Traditional braces use brackets and wires designed to allow an orthodontist to slowly pull teeth into position.

There are many positive attributes to braces, including the amount of control an orthodontist has to get the desired result. The are also several negative aspects to traditional metal braces including:

•  Secured: Metal braces are secured with cement to your teeth. They will stay in place until removed at the end of treatment. This can be frustrating for those who play sports, instruments, or are embarrassed by their very visible look.

•  Sharp: Metal brackets have been known to cut soft tissue in your mouth. A common complaint is the sharp edges and points of braces.

•  Adjust Diet: Brackets and wires are designed in such a way that food can get stuck. Or, crunchy food can even break a wire or loosen a bracket. Patients often need to adjust their diet while wearing braces.

•  Visible: Traditional metal braces are visible, there’s just no getting away from the metal look on your teeth. Many patients dislike the very visible appearance of braces.

Invisalign does not share any of these negative aspects of traditional braces. Invisalign allows you to straighten your smile without the hassle of brackets and wires.

How Invisalign Works

Your Invisalign aligners are silicone molds that are worn over the teeth like a retainer.

Just like any dental procedure, not everyone is a perfect candidate. We will examine your mouth and the issues you have that require braces.

If we decide you are a good candidate, we use a system called the ITero Scanner that creates photos of your teeth at the starting point, in their current position, and then a projection of the desired change.

This information is sent to a dental lab for the fabrication of a series of silicone aligners. Each mold is worn for about two weeks at a time, with each designed to make tiny movements through applying pressure to specific teeth.

You will then change to the next aligner in the series until the end of treatment.

How Invisalign is Different

Metal braces stay on your teeth for a year or two. You cannot remove them, and you must watch what you eat to avoid breaking a bracket or letting food get stuck in them.

Invisalign is different.

You wear the aligners most of the day, but not when you are eating. This allows you to eat what you want and not have to worry about breaking brackets or getting food stuck.

You do not have to come into the office for regular tightening appointments. Instead, you get your next wave of aligners that you put in yourself.

It has the same effect as tightening your braces, but without the discomfort that some people feel. The difference, however, is that you must be vigilant about wearing the aligners most of the day for the best results.

Our dentists create a plan for your aligners based on you wearing them all day with the exception of when you eat or brush your teeth.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign provides users with many benefits, including:

•  Metal Free: Metal in your mouth can bring a lot of frustration and embarrassment. Invisalign is entirely metal free. Nothing to poke, stab, or really even break. You can enjoy treatment metal free.

•  Enhance Your Look and Correct Your Smile: Invisalign is used to correct multiple malocclusions issues including gaps, overbites, underbites, and crossbites.

•  Lower Risk of Tooth Decay:One of the difficult aspects of metal braces is keeping them clean. It can be quite the chore to brush, floss, and remove debris from around and under traditional braces. With Invisalign, you simply remove the device while you eat, and remove it to brush and floss as normal. You then brush and clean your Invisalign mold.

•  Nearly Invisible: Your Invisalign device is nearly invisible, in fact most people will never know you’re wearing it. The clear silicone material entirely surrounds your teeth. You don’t have to display the awkward appearance of metal braces.

•  Removable: The freedom to remove your device when needed is significant. Treatment requires you to wear your Invisalign aligner most of the day, about 23 hours, but it is removable for brief periods to eat, play sports, play a woodwind instrument, or even for that special occasion.

•  Less Office Visits: Invisalign treatment does require office visits to see how treatment is going, but it requires far fewer appointments than traditional braces. This is because we do not have to oversee tightenings, you simply move to the next aligner in the series.

•  Confidence: The most important factor of Invisalign is improving your self confidence. Smiles say a lot, we want you to have a smile that shows your inner light. Your Invisalign treatment will help you look better, and feel better.

Invisalign is a great way to straighten your teeth without the hassle of metal braces.
