Teeth Whitening

Everyone wants white teeth, but over time, your teeth can become discolored from regular eating and drinking habits and even the aging process. If you are not getting the results you want with regular brushing and flossing, consider the professional teeth whitening we offer at McDonald DDS.

How We Whiten Teeth

If you want the whitest results from your teeth whitening, use one of our two teeth whitening options. Our dentists can determine which option will suit your needs the most based on the reasons for your discolored teeth.

We offer a take-home kit as well as an in-office procedure. Both options are non-invasive and provide great results. Our take-home kits are stronger than the kits you would buy at the local drugstore, however. First, the kit is customized to your mouth. We take impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab where our technicians create trays that are exclusively for your mouth. The trays have the whitening gel in them, which is why having a tray that fits your teeth snugly is imperative. Without a proper fit, the gel will not uniformly hit your teeth, which could leave you with uneven results. It could also damage your gums, leaving you with painful results.

Our take-home kit requires use over several weeks for optimal results. If you would rather have immediate results, we offer an in-office procedure. This non-invasive procedure uses a laser light to create the whitening effect from the gel. We use two products – Zoom! and, Opalescence Xtra Boost. Our dentists can tell which product would provide you with the best results. The appointment is short, and the results are fast with either option.

Reasons for Discolored Teeth

Our dentists will evaluate your mouth and determine the reason for your discolored teeth before choosing a method to whiten them. Typically, discoloration is due to your eating habits. For example, if you drink a lot of soda or coffee, you may have stained teeth, which any of our teeth whitening services can help fix.

Some patients are just destined for discolored teeth because of genetics or the aging process. Yet others have discolored teeth due to their lifestyle habits, such as smoking, drinking, or chewing tobacco. Each situation leaves you with a different level of discoloration. Our dentists will evaluate the discoloration and inform you of how whitening may help or not help. We are honest with you about the results so that you can make an informed decision.

Caring for Your Teeth

If we find that your discoloration is due to an oral health disease, we will suggest treating the disease first. Optimal oral health can help keep your teeth white. Proper oral hygiene habits, choosing the right foods, and keeping up with your normal dental appointments are great ways to preserve the whiteness of your enamel.
