Dental Veneers Plano, TX
Are you tired of your unsightly front teeth? Do you wish there was a procedure that could fix them for you without being invasive? At McDonald DDS, we offer our patients the option of dental veneers – a cosmetic procedure that is non-invasive, but effective at fixing stained or damaged teeth.
Veneers are dental restoration appliances that are thin shells adhered to the front of the tooth and are used to improve the cosmetic look of teeth by protecting the tooth enamel and restoring a fractured tooth. Veneers are tooth-colored restorations that attach closely to the teeth and help change the length, shade, function, and size of the tooth. Veneers are dental prostheses prescribed by a cosmetic dentist to restore a patient's appearance and confidence by improving their dental structure.
Veneers are placed for cosmetic reasons, and are an elective aesthetic dental treatment. At McDonald DDS, we can help you restore your aesthetic appearance through veneers. Before the permanent veneers are custom made in the lab, we will give you temporary composite veneers.
Who Can Get Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers help minor cosmetic issues, such as stained teeth, chipped teeth, or cracks in your teeth. They are also a great option for front teeth with a gap between them. Our dentists can tell right away if veneers would be a good option or if you need a different procedure to help with the issues you face.
In general, your teeth must be in good health for veneers to work. In other words, you should not have tooth decay or gum disease when getting veneers. You want your teeth in tiptop shape so that the veneers stay in place and do their job of creating the perfect smile.
Who Can Benefit from Veneers?
Patients with misshapen, damaged, decayed, or stained teeth can get veneers to improve the appearance of the affected teeth. Veneers cover the visible front surfaces of teeth. These thin shells offer a natural look and people may not detect that you have veneers.
What are Dental Veneers Made Of?
Veneers are made of porcelain. The hard substance provides your teeth with a strong, smooth, and beautiful surface. The thin material sits right over the surface of your existing teeth, almost like a laminate. The porcelain reflects light, ensuring that your teeth look as natural as possible while giving them the durability that they need.
Despite their durability, care should be exercised when eating with veneers. You do not want to bite into excessively hard foods, as the veneer could crack. Veneers can also stain easily, but they cannot whiten. Once you stain veneers, they must be replaced if you do not like how they look.
Since veneers can be fabricated of different materials, we can discuss the choices with you. You can opt for composite resin or porcelain, but porcelain veneers come with many advantages as it resists stains and mimics the light-reflecting features of natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are also stronger than resin veneers. There are also 'no-prep' veneers that require minimal to zero tooth preparation before placement.
Getting Dental Veneers
The dental veneers process does require a little patience. You will need two appointments to get the final look that you desire.
Your first appointment is when our dentist evaluates your mouth to see if you are a good candidate for dental veneers. We can do this at your normal checkup or at a subsequent appointment. We will make sure there are not any underlying issues, such as tooth decay or gum disease before we start. We will also ensure that you are happy with the whiteness of your smile at this point. If you need your natural teeth whitened, we suggest that you do it before getting veneers for an even result.
Once you are ready, we will remove a part of the tooth’s enamel to make room for the veneers. We will then take impressions of your mouth and send them to the lab. The lab technicians will create custom veneers just for your mouth that match the shape and color of your other teeth. Once the veneers come in, we can make small adjustments to the size and when we are happy with how they look, we will affix them to the front of the tooth. A special light-activated adhesive is used, which forms a strong bond so that the veneers are fixed securely in place.
You will have a bright, white smile that looks cosmetically perfect, and no one will know the difference.
