Benefits of Dental Implants Plano, TX

X-ray rendering of dental implants from McDonald DDS in Plano, TXLosing your teeth is a serious issue. No matter if you lose just one or you lose them all, your entire life is affected. Once simple tasks like eating and speaking become more challenging, your smile is significantly impacted. Adjacent healthy teeth begin to shift out of alignment as the jawbone loses bone mass. Replacing missing teeth is essential for restoring normal oral functions. McDonald & Luck DDS can replace your missing teeth with dental implants.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a modern treatment used to replace missing teeth. This treatment uses small titanium posts that are surgically placed into your jawbone to provide support for your replacement teeth. Your bone gradually fuses to the posts as you heal in a natural process called osseointegration. This process stabilizes the posts in your jaw, turning them into strong roots that can hold your replacement teeth securely in place, preventing them from shifting out of place or falling out completely.

Meeting Your Needs

Implants are incredibly versatile and can be used to meet all kinds of different needs. There are several different types of implants including:

•  Single tooth implants. A single tooth implant is used to replace an individual tooth. This is done with a single post to support an individual ceramic crown.

•  Multiple teeth implants. A multiple teeth implant replaces two or more consecutive missing teeth. The number of teeth being replaced and the condition of your jawbone determine how many posts are needed to support your new teeth.

•  Full arch replacements. A full arch replacement is used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Typically, your replacement teeth are supported by 6 to 8 posts. However, if you are missing too much bone mass, we can provide alternatives that use fewer. These solutions are used to help avoid the need for a bone graft.

Why Get Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer numerous incredible benefits. These benefits include:

•  A completely natural appearance. The ceramic crowns look exactly like your real teeth.

•  Restoring normal functions to your mouth. With dental implants, your teeth are held securely in place, allowing you to enjoy all of your favorite foods without worrying about your restorations falling out. Your teeth also restore normal speech. Because they feel completely natural, you do not have to adjust to a new object in your mouth.

•  Comfort. Your teeth are supported by the posts in your jaw rather than by your gums or adjacent teeth.

•  Easy to care for. You can brush and floss your implants exactly like your real teeth.

•  Restoring stimulation to your jawbone. This helps to stop and prevent bone loss in your jaw, keeping it healthy and strong.

How are Implants Placed?

Placing implants is more involved than traditional restorations and requires surgery. Surgery begins with small incisions in your gums. This gives us access to your jawbone. We drill holes into your bone and place the implant posts directly inside. Your gums are then sutured closed, and temporary teeth are placed.

After surgery, follow up visits allow us to monitor your healing, ensuring that your bone is fusing properly and that there are no issues. Healing can take several weeks to several months to complete. Once you have fully healed, we design and create your final dental restorations and secure your new teeth onto your implant posts.
